It seems the last few days I've been hating on silver vehicles, what with Porsche's !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! (panel gaps and all) and the technically interesting but strangely-coloured matte silver !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . It's not intentional, it wasn't planned that way, it just happened.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
But you know what? I'm an open-minded kind of guy. I'm willing to learn, and I'm not afraid to be shown the error of my ways. So I did some google searches to see if I could find something exciting in silver, and the results were pretty conclusive:
Silver Mercedes - not very exciting.
Silver BMW - yawn...
Silver Ferrari with bikini model - thank goodness for that bikini, otherwise I might have slipped into a coma already.
So I challenge you Oppo: Prove me wrong. Show me that silver cars have what it takes to be sexy. Go ahead, I dare you.

I agree. Silver just dulls out pretty much everything. Doesn't help that it is one of the most popular colors too.
I feel the same towards white and black but there are some cars that really work well with white and/or black. I think the dark gray also works better than silver but it is also starting to become overdone.

While I agree with you on normal, everyday cars, some cars wore silver colors really well during history...

Silver has been my favorite for the McLaren F1
CKL GTR works in silver
As does this Aston DBS
And also the 959

With the contrasting spoiler and flames coming out of the tailpipe, it's not 100% boring. But it's still just silver.

These are beautiful cars in any colour, that's not in doubt. I'd be happy to own any one of them. I'll give you some points for the first two cars, but those roadsters just aren't "loud"enough, sorry.

Great cars, but...
McLaren - Meh.
CLK GTR - What car? It just fades into the sky - a car like that should be seen!
Aston Martin - Sexy sexy car. Looks like there's a bit of blue in that silver, so it gets a pass.
959 - Boring. Gimme white, red, or just about anything else.

Perhaps not.

Silver is Germany's national racing color, much like how British Racing Green is Britain's national racing color, so plenty of classic racecars should do, though it does seem that Germany was short-changed on interesting racing colors.

I didn't know this - interesting! That perhaps explains all those wonderful topless silver German cars in Otto's reply. As far as national racing colours go, silver's not very exciting. Germany could have chosen red, or black, but not that orangey-yellow colour in the middle.
Perhaps silver is a safe colour, for when you don't know what else to pick, or for when you don't want to stand out too much. A serious colour, if you will.

I too hate silver cars. When I see four or five in a row it just makes me hate everyone involved for having no imagination.
However, I shall play your game, for my exceptions are:
NISMO Z-Tune '05 (because it's the only colour available apart from one Midnight Purple, and it's a specific kind of silver... apparently)
Aston Martin DB5 (because James Bond, duh)
The Porsche 904 (Carrera GTS), for being sexy in a pure and simple way that Porsche owns
Ditto for the Carrera GT
I also like the Honda Civic Type-R in silver, simply because there's so much going on already (all of which I dig) that it doesn't really need an interesting colour to lift it. Plus white would flatten the lines and surfacing a bit, whereas something metallic like silver shows it off better.
Would they look even better in an actual colour? Yes. Does that stop them looking great in silver? No.

I also hate silver but it looks quite good on an M Coupe.

I think you have to see cars in person, and then in good lighting, to judge. The depth and sparkle of the better silver paint jobs doesn't come across well in photography; there really aren't many colors that do, and they tend to be the nonmetallic shades. "Silver" in terms of car paint is, let's be honest, light grey, and grey doesn't even sound like it could be exciting. The color of the background and the sky also has a significant effect on how you perceive it.

You're right - "grey" doesn't sound very exciting, nor does "gray". Silver is just sparkly grey. Essentially putting lipstick on a pig, right?

Even a clown shoe isn't any fun when it's painted silver.

I agree - when I see a lineup of same-looking cars in various unexciting shades of same-looking silvers and greys, it gets to me. I ask myself, "Why did all these people pick the same non-colour?"
That NISMO looks interesting, and perhaps might be an acceptable case for a silver car. Thanks!
The Aston Martin could be painted poop brown and it's be a delightful car to look at.
The 904 doesn't work for me at all, neither the shape nor the colour are doing it.
The Carrera GT is one of my all-time favourites, but as with the new 918 Spyder, that silver represents a missed opportunity to be something even greater.
